innovation
We advocate innovative approaches in education:
- Encourage and sponsor the refugees to start and sustain income-generating projects to fund school materials, teachers’ incentives and help parents to pay school fees.
- Innovative methods, including use of modern technologies: independent learning and distance education through various technologies; youth groups involved in post-literacy programmes, peer education and health, cultural and sport activities; students’ associations promoting education and awareness in the refugee camps; enrichment of curricula with messages such as AIDS awareness, peace-building, environmental education and mine awareness, production of school magazines or newspapers for educational messages, recreational reading and literacy practice.
- Obtain the curricula, syllabus and textbooks of the home country from the Ministry of Education.
- Harmonise the teachers’ and students’ incentive system.
- Support the rehabilitation of local schools so that the local population benefits.
- Promote and reinforce school community participation and involvement.
- Build and support educational resource centres which benefit refugee and local post-primary education.
- Promote cross-pollination, i.e., encourage teachers or teachers associations from developed countries to visit the refugee schools and organise special training for refugee teachers and students.
